Shades Editor Talks to Teens About Esteem
Shades editor and publisher Theresa Tracy was one of five panelist a self esteem for teen girls
during the Expo for Today's Black Woman in Chicago, IL.
Can We Talk?—Confident Girls Become Phenomenal Women was a workshop for mothers and
daughters that offered advice on how to raise confident women, discussed ways to talk openly
about sex, boys and drugs and explored safe environments that help teen women build esteem.
About 300 girls and their mothers attended the 90-minute on Saturday March 4th at McCormick
Place Convention Center.
Other panelists will included Marissa Whitley—Miss Teen USA 2001; Naomi Jaha-Echols—
Author of Project Butterfly Supporting Young Girls of African Decent Through the Transitions of
Life; Robin Collymore-Henry—Author of No Mistakes! The African American Teen Guide to
Growing Up Strong and B.J. Parker of Public Image Relations.
